Magali Reus: Spring for a Ground / Particle of Inch / Halted Paves / Quarters
Magali Reus: Spring for a Ground / Particle of Inch / Halted Paves / Quarters features work from the four exhibitions that were co-commissioned by SculptureCenter, The Hepworth Wakefield, Westfälischer Kunstverein, and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. These exhibitions showcase Reus’s exploration into staging through the sets she rendered with CAD that feature objects of the mundane: broken coffee mugs, dishes in the drying rack, twisted wire hangers, as well as her fascination with padlocks, exposing the would be mechanics inside of them and bestowing months of the year to their titles. Present in this body of work is Reus’s attraction to objects through their sentimentality. These sets and locks raise questions on the lines between contrived and genuine, an object’s physicality vs their virtual reference and the importance of recording a passage of time.
